Review: Organic Apple Toffee Delivers On Dessert Flavour Without Overdoing It

Before I had my first puff of a Simply Bare Organic joint, I didn’t understand the hype about organic flower. Their Apple Toffee strain was recommended to me by a few daily cannabis smokers who promised me the smoothest smoke of my life, so I walked into my local dispensary feeling very optimistic. Gleefully, I found they had exactly what I was looking for: The indica-leaning hybrid of Sour Apples and Crème Brûlée I had been dying to get my hands on.

Apple Toffee Makes For Relaxation and Gentle High

Most days I smoke for symptom management from chronic physical and mental illnesses, and the day I dove into Simply Bare’s products was no exception. On that cloudy afternoon, I was feeling nauseous, anxious, and unable to focus. It helped me relax, get in touch with myself, and be more present. This kind of gentle, balanced high was exactly what I wanted, and the ash slowly burned a lovely, bright grey.

Pre-rolled joints are my method of choice right now for consuming cannabis products, and often that wreaks havoc on my throat and lungs. But what they say about organic flower is true, at least when it comes to Simply Bare. The smoke goes down easily and leaves a heavy, lingering head and body high that I’m confident would impress any experienced indica or hybrid-favouring stoner. If your brain chemistry is anything like mine, your couch will be calling to you in no time.

Apple Toffee
Simply Bare’s Organic Apple Toffee is available in pre-rolls as well as 3.5 and 7 gram containers.

High THC and Terpene-Rich

With an THC percentage of 18 to 24 percent and very low CBD, this product is for folks who want to feel the effects of high-combustion methods. The terpene profile packs caryophyllene, limonene, farnesene, and humulene, all stored in a gorgeous tangerine jar available in either 3.5 or 7 grams. All of their products are Organic Certified by the Fraser Valley Organic Producers Association, and this cultivar in particular has big, thick leaves poking out of dense, fluffy buds.

This cannabis is soft and spongy, but not dry. I bought the pre-rolls, so I can’t say how it rolls into a joint, but the smoke was so gentle and soft that it must be easy. One of the first characteristics I look for in a joint is a painless, pleasant inhale, and this experience definitely delivered. It could be the organic growth that made it so tasty and velvety, but I can’t say for sure.

Dessert in a Doobie

The second-most wonderful thing about this strain is its mild sweet taste. Sometimes cute, dessert-y names promise more than they can deliver or go overboard on the flavour, leaving a nasty aftertaste. That’s not true for Apple Toffee, which has fruity, tart, and caramel notes that are mild enough to enjoy as you puff, without getting stuck on your tongue all day. The aroma matches perfectly, giving just enough mustiness to remind me of an apple field in season.

Since smoking the Apple Toffee—and finding out the Simply Bare grows out of the Fraser Valley in B.C., where I grew up—they have become my favourite local brand. Skipping out on unnecessary additives, preservatives, and environmental hazards fits snugly in line with my moral code and health goals, and their flower is so tasty I can’t wait to try the rest of what they have to offer.
